'Sin City 2' Back on Track? Production Could Start in April
Date: 12/8/2008
In an interview with Chris Tilly of IGN UK, Frank Miller indicated that the oft-delayed Sin City 2 may be back on track. Produced for a paltry $40 million in 2005, the first Sin City movie, which was co-directed by Robert Rodriguez and Frank Miller, earned nearly $159 million at the box office worldwide. Now that?s the kind of performance that typically insures one or more sequels, and since the film was based on a seven-volume series of comics compilations (published by Dark Horse), it appeared that a Sin City movie franchise was all but inevitable. However scheduling complications both in front of and behind the camera have precluded the production, at least so far, of what was easily the most obvious ?no-brainer? on any Hollywood studio?s slate.

But Sin City co-director Frank Miller, who is currently on a publicity tour for his adaptation of Will Eisner?s The Spirit, told IGN on December 4th: ?Sin City 2 is written. It?s mainly a matter of working out the details of the production. I?m hoping to do it with Robert Rodriguez again in the same circumstances that we did the first one, and we could begin shooting again as early as April.?

Given the effect that the original Sin City movie had on sales of the Miller?s Sin City graphic novel collections (even on DVD, see ?The DVD Effect Materializes?), that?s very good news for retailers (and for Dark Horse).
