Ben Stiller Nabs Graphic Novel Oni's 'The Return of King Doug' Date: 4/2/2008 |
Variety is reporting that Dreamworks has acquired The Return of King Doug graphic novel from Oni Press as a potential starring vehicle for Ben Stiller. Greg Orb and Jason Oremland created The Return of King Doug graphic novel, the saga of a man who returns to a fantasy kingdom after 30 years, which will be published by Oni Press next year. Orb and Oremland are writing the screen adaptation of their graphic novel. Once again a comic book/graphic novel project has been optioned for the silver screen before it has ever seen the light of day -- more evidence of Hollywood's unabated interest in the world of comics--and the best thing about acquiring unpublished comics is that the studio can keep the plot details under wraps thus forestalling the development of similar projects at other studios. Stiller is producing The Return of King Doug under his Red Hour Films banner, while Oni's Joe Nozemack is on board as an executive producer. |
