Ruling Against 2CH For Unauthorized Manga Reprint Date: 3/4/2005 |
The manager of the famous Japanese BBS 2ch was ordered to pay compensation in an appeal hearing before the by the Tokyo High Court after it was found that coprighted manga work was reprinted without permission by a user online. A lawsuit was filed by Miyuki Kitagawa and Shogakukan requesting compensation for damages of three million Yen from the manager of of the bulletin board. The presiding jusge mentioned "There is an obligation to correct promptly if the manager commited piracy". An order was made for the payment of 1.2 million yen in total. The original hearing before the Tokyo District Court ended in the dismissal of the lawsuit stating "It was the user /poster that violated the copyright and not the manager of the bulletin board". |
