Universal, Hong-Kong-Based Director to Remake Shinobi Date: 7/31/2007 |
Variety reports that Universal Pictures has licensed the rights to remake the 2005 live-action film Shinobi about two lovers from feuding ninja clans. The studio has hired Hong-Kong-based director Max Makowski to script and direct. Makowski is best known for One Last Dance, his Sundance 2006 World Competition film about Singaporean gangsters. He plans to reset the film in modern Hong Kong. Funimation released Shinobi in North America, and Del Rey published Futaro Yamada's The Kouga Ninja Scrolls novel that inspired Shinobi. The novel also inspired the Basilisk manga published by Del Rey and the Basilisk: The Kouga Ninja Scrolls anime released by Funimation. |
