Japanese Theme Park Controversy Date: 2/11/2005 |
Theres a bit of a row brewing in Japan over introducing Japanese character attractions in American based themeparks. As previously reported, Universal Studio Japan made an announcement that it will launch it's Full Metal Alchemist addition in Osaka next month. The move has ignited some heated debate on the topic between fans. Part of the arguement is over the fact that Hello Kitty's attraction last year and Alchemist this year is some how upsetting the traditional philosophy of theme parks of this type, which is to provide entertainment to the family and not just kids or adults seperately. Another part seems to center on the obejection to introducing Japanese based works into attractions in these American style environments. Tokyo Disneyland for instance incorporates no Japanese characters. Alchemist runs from March 19 - May 8. |
