Gedo Senki Japan's #1 Film In 2006 Date: 1/30/2007 |
The Motion Picture Producers Association of Japan announced their annual national movie statistsics On Tuesday. The box office revenue of domestically produced and released Japanese films in 2006 was 107.75 billion Yen, outpacing foreign produced and imported films' 94.8 billion Yen share in the same market. This marks the frist annual period in 21 years (1985) that Japanese cinema has outsold foreign cinema at the box office in Japan. As for the top grossing pictures of the year, Goro Miyazaki's Gedo Senki (Toho) released in July arrived in the #1 spot, earning 7.65 billion Yen in ticket sells. Other anime related entries in the top 10 include #5: Death Note: The Last Name (WB), released in November, which drew 5.2 billion Yen; #7 July's Pokemon Ranger and the Temple of the Sea (Toho), which earned 3.4 billion Yen; #8 March's Doraemon: Nobita's Dinosaur 2006 (Toho), which earned 3.28 billion Yen and #10 Detective Conan Movie 10: The Private Eyes' Requiem which took 3.03 bill Yen when it hit theaters in April courtesy Toho. |
