Blu-Ray Owns 80% Of Japanese HD Hardware Market Not Including PS3 Date: 1/26/2007 |
On Friday in Tokyo, independent reseach firm BCN revealed Japanese sales figures related to both the Blu-Ray and HD-DVD high definition video disc hardware. Between the period of autumn, 2006 through the beginning of 2007, BCN tabulated sales of standalone decks, recorders, and personal computer drives. The figures exclude game machines (ie: PS3). According to their findings Sony and Matsushita's Blu-Ray standard commanded 78% of hardware sales while Toshiba's HD-DVD saw a 22% share in hardware-related sales. In the category of 1st party in-house created / marketed hardware Sony and Matsuhita's 300,000 Yen players / recorders also dominated with 83% sales. |
