Japanese NPA Looks At "child pornography" Manga Date: 1/10/2007 |
Japan's National Police Agency recently investigated the influence that internet society had on children's healthy development. The report delved into a "high malignancy and anti-sociality" surrounding manga, computer games, and animation that depicts children in a sexual light. It specifies, "In comics, there are some sexual situations with those less than 18 years old and sex with school children etc. is described, too". The agency requested the strengthening of countermeasures which include independent review and sales regulations. Of particular interest to the NPA were bookstore websites where "pornography manga involving children" could be bought rather easily by the general public. The NPA surveyed these sites in November and found about 9,000 adult manga items with an estimated 30% of those being "child pornography". |
