The Anime Network on Comcast Details Date: 12/7/2004 |

Back in September, it was announced that Comcast had signed a deal with Sony to launch three new cable TV networks in North America, among the likely candidates was Sony's Animax network, an all anime network already available in Japan, South America, and several parts of Asia. The Anime Network's Chris Nelson tells us that, "Anime Network is at a critical time in our negotiations with several major Cable and Satellite companies," Nelson explains that Comcast placed the burden of proving the viability of an all anime TV network on TAN's shoulders, "They tested our worth by offering Anime Network On Demand." With the market established, the doors were opened for TAN's linear channel, but Comcast may now be looking elsewhere for anime content. "Now, it has been reported that Comcast might provide space for Sony?s so-far phantom network, Animax, if that channel were ported to North America," says Nelson. Nelson suggests that the easiest way to support The Anime Network is to visit their website and click on the "Anime Fans of America: Your time is now!" graphic and fill out the form. Going a step farther, fans can call Comcast, or other cable providers and express their desire for The Anime Network's linear offering. In addition to the Anime Network VOD and The Anime Network linear, Comcast also carries, in some markets, Anime Selects, offering various titles from Central Park Media and Adult Swim on Demand, which carries anime provided by Bandai Entertainment in addition to other non-anime offerings. Currently The Anime Network's linear channel is the only linear channel available in North America entirely dedicated to anime. |
