Washington Post Article on Anime Success Date: 12/6/2004 |
Today's Washington Post includes an article (free registration may be required) entitled, "We're Playing Their Toons." The article starts by looking at the recent premiere of Hayao Miyazaki's latest film, Howl's Moving Castle, but then moves on to look at the success of anime in North America, as well as the influence it has on North American animation. The article interviews Cartoon Network's Sean Akins, 4Kids' Alfred (Al) R. Kahn. Despite anime's success the article points out a weakness, stating, "the biggest gap in anime's global reach remains its inability to generate the type of full-length, commercial blockbusters like "Finding Nemo," and goes on to explain why anime feature films don't succeed in the North American box office. Thank you to Proman for pointing this article out. |
