Skrulls Aren't 'The Avengers' Villains And No Red Skull Either Date: 1/24/2012 |

Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige has shot down rumors that the alien menace in Joss Whedon?s The Avengers is the shape-shifting Skrulls. When photographers manage to capture a shot of mysterious alien inscriptions on ?wreckage? at one of The Avengers location shoots (see ?Spoiler Alert: Photos Reveal Avengers Film Menace?), it appeared to confirm earlier speculation based on a supposed script leak that the Skrulls just might be involved in the new Avengers movie (see ?Kree-Skrull War in Avengers Movie??). The ScarJo Cover Speaking to Empire Magazine for an Avengers cover story, Feige was typically definitive: ?It?s not Skrulls, I?ve been clear about that. The identity of the alien race is not impactful. It exists in the comic books, but we?re not setting up the Kree-Skrull war or anything like that.? New Action Still Having disposed of the long-lingering rumor about the Skrulls, Feige proceeded to demolish a more recent round of speculation that had the Red Skull reprising his villainous turn from Captain America: ?Was the Red Skull vaporized at the end of the movie, or thrust into another realm? That remains to be seen. It would be fun to see the Red Skull in the future, but he?s not in this one.? |
