Fruits Basket Tops Graphic Novel Sales Date: 9/1/2004 |
The most recent Bookscan Graphic Novel list (for the week ending August 22nd) places Fruits Basket #4 at the top of the charts as the most sold graphic novel in the stores surveyed. The top five graphic novels were: Fruits Basket Volume 4 (Tokyopop) Rurouni Kenshin Volume 6 (Viz) Naruto Volume 4 (Viz) Negima Volume 2 (Del Rey) D.N.Angel Volume 3 (Tokyopop) According to ICv2, the top ten comprised of 5 Viz titles, 4 Tokyopop titles and 1 Del Rey title. In all, manga accounted for 47 of the top 50 items on the chart, with the three American graphic being League of Extraordinary Gentlemen Volume 2 (20th), the newest Foxtrot Collection (38th) and Ultimate Spiderman volume 10 in 50th. The Nielson Bookscan ranks are based on point of sales data gathered at numerous outlets in the booktrade. The ranks are based on how many copies of a particular item were purchased by readers during a given week, not the number of copies sold to the bookstores. Not all retailers participate in the polling, in particular comic book and specialty shops, as well as independant outlets are not represented. |
