Tokyopop and Viz Collaborate in Germany Date: 7/25/2005 |
Tokyopop to Publish German Adaptations of Shueisha Properties that are Controlled Internationally by Viz Media. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Tokyopop Germany has announced an agreement to collaborate with Viz Media of San Francisco and Shueisha of Tokyo on the publication of manga content in Germany. Although Viz and Tokyopop are competitors in North America, Viz does not have an established presence in the German market. Tokyopop Germany will be publishing a number of Shueisha titles that are released by Viz in North America. Currently announced titles include Bleach, Death Note and Prince of Tennis as well as Shueisha's youth novel series. Kenji Yasaka, general manager of Shueisha's international department comments, "Tokyopop GmbH's vision of the future of manga is to our liking. After discussion with our American subsidiary, Viz Media, we agreed that, based on Viz Media's overall strategy for the European market, further development of the German market and a strengthening of Shueisha's properties will be best achieved cooperating with Tokyopop GmbH." |
