San Diego Ups Bid for Comic-Con $500K Date: 4/29/2010 |
San Diego has increased its offer to keep San Diego Comic-Con in the city through 2015, according to the San Diego Union Tribune. The show, which has been in San Diego for 40 years, is being wooed by Anaheim, which has a larger convention center and more hotel rooms (see ?Anaheim Steps Up Comic-Con Efforts?). The new proposal includes $500,000 toward shuttle buses operated by the convention. The contribution comes from the Tourism Marketing District (supported by a room tax), which believes the convention helps market the city as a tourist destination. The contribution from the Tourism Marketing District would be offered in $100,000 increments over five years beginning next year. Comic-Con has to agree to extend its stay for three years beyond 2012 in order to receive the benefit. |
