Fantasy Anime Release News

In almost all cases, plans to revive a legendary lord of demons whose intent is usually to destroy the world, plans to revive such a beast under the guise of one's own ambition for world conquest, rarely go as planned. Such is the starting point of the Japanese animated television series Tears to Tiara, a fantasy-adventure cartoon that matches the invoked power of an oppressive royal domain with that of a demon lord.

Distributed stateside by Section23 Films (Blue Drop), the 2009-produced anime series Tears to Tiara will be available on home video later this month.

In an era of swords and sorcery, an overbearing empire seeks unquestionable control over its subordinated territories. In one such territory, a wayward priest conspires to resurrect Lord Arawn, a demon king, sealed in a tomb deep in a cave somewhere. The revival ceremony, in need of a live sacrifice, chances to kidnap local priestess Riannon for the event.

Fortunately or unfortunately, the resurrection goes slightly awry.... Riannon's life is spared by the demon lord, but now it seems Lord Arawn has taken a human form, and appears free to roam the land unrestricted by any seal or curse from years ago.

As Tears to Tiara continues, Riannon and Arawn quickly find themselves in the contemptible situation of being at the opposite end of the Divine Empire's quest for indivisible power and authority. Riannon and Arawn, with such a fantastical power resting between them, now have little other choice than to take down the Empire. War against the Empire usually spells certain doom, but the situation may have changed, what with a little tribes-girl now in the affections of a resurrected demon king and all.

Section23 Films and Sentai Filmworks, remnants of once prominent industry group ADV Vision, Inc., are uniting to distribute Tears to Tiara. The first DVD Set release of the anime series, containing the first half of the program's twenty-six episodes, is scheduled to release on November 24, 2009 ($39.98); subtitled only. Known for mixing a good deal of medieval action and candid harem humor, Tears to Tiara's cast blossoms as the episodes progress. Also included in the series' cast is Arthur, warrior brother to the priestess Riannon, a young man whose tolerance of Lord Arawn drives a fair amount of the anime's whimsical exploits.

Tears to Tiara, integrating an adventure mythos theme as well as its fare share of harem romance and comedy, is based on a short sequence of PC and videogames of the same name.
