'Broly: Second Coming' Breaks Record Date: 4/12/2005 |
FUNimation announced on Monday that Cartoon Network has confirmed that the Dragon Ball Z anime will return to a daily strip in June, in a time slot to be announced at a later date. And the company was also riding high on the news that the latest Dragon Ball Z feature, Broly: Second Coming, had broken all FUNimation records for first week sell-through of a Dragon Ball Z DVD release. TV exposure for Dragon Ball Z had declined from a peak of 1.5 hours per day (1/2 hour of Dragon Ball and an hour of Dragon Ball Z) to just an hour a week (for Dragon Ball GT) in the Saturday evening Toonami block. This renewed daily exposure on Cartonn Network will help support sell-through of the Dragon Ball Z Ultimate Uncut Special Editions, which street April 12th, and Dragon Ball Z movie releases planned throughout the year (see "Previously Unreleased Dragon Ball Z DVDs"). Videogame releases will also keep the property in the public eye. Atari plans five videogame releases this year, and recently announced that it will continue to be the exclusive videogame licensee for another five years. |
